This is the first of two pages that were collaborations between two of our artists – Jonathan Aguillon and Erik Solem. It was a fun way to mix things up a bit. It’s also the only page dedicated to “the little people”. It seemed fitting that they also get their say in this tale. The interviews play out like man-on-the-street bits on the evening news – except with late 19th century serfs. And that statue! Just wonderful.

That is a VERY nice touch, putting the golden goblet there. For those who don’t know, the goblet (according to legend) was left out by the Historical Dracula so that anyone who drank from the fountain at Targoviste would feel like royalty. What astonished visitors is that no one dared steal it. Some say Dracula would have killed everyone in the city if it disappeared, in any event no one put it to the test. The goblet and it’s story can be seen in the… mostly historical movie Dracula: The Dark Prince starring Rudolf Martin (currently re-released in a set of four made for TV movies on Amazon, for some reason cheaper than the old DVD of it by itself).
Thanks, Amanda! That’s all our Erik and Jonathan. Wasn’t in the script, despite how thorough I tried to be. Good on them – and good on YOU for not only spotting it, but giving us the info. Excelsior!
Oh Good, someone got that reference!
