I think this sequence spun out of the fact that I was watching a lot of Jean Rollin films at the time – La Vampire Nue, Demoniacs, The Shiver of the Vampires, amongst others. I knew next to nothing about them at the time. If you’re as unfamiliar as I was, let me tell you they are…. Well, imagine if David Lynch had been French and had next to no budget. That’s not too far off the mark. Anyway, the best of them have a certain appeal – and even the lesser entries have a few clever ideas and/or set pieces. I believe the notion of kidnapping a vampire came from La Vampire Nue. I’m sure Joss Whedon did something like it in Buffy or Angel, but as I’ve hardly seen any of either – I know, I know – I can honestly play the innocent.
